How to teach your child in a crisis
May 07, 2021So here we all are. Worrying about whether we will be able to teach our own kids with all the materials that the teachers in their school are providing them with. Can you do it all?... Nope. You see kids respond differently to teachers and I know. Because I am both a parent and a teacher. The amount of parents who come to me ask ask if they are being 'difficult' with me because they are at home! The wonderful thing that I see, is that they are polite and charming and tend to do very well with me at school. Then they come home and are not so nice to you.. I know its true because I have some of my own!
You have just got to do whatever you can manage and make sure they are happy during this crisis, make sure they get some fresh air and take breaks. But most of all, don't put so much pressure on yourself. I naturally have techniques embedded into my way of teaching which allow me to know when they need help and when they are playing up- I tend to push them when I can tell they're trying it on and then give them rewards to motivate. Sound easy? Its not. I raise my voice and get frustrated too with my own but somehow when they are someone else's kids I seem to have more patience! Keep them safe and let them do whatever they can for now. Its nearly the holiday. Then we will see what happens with the world in this crisis. Stay at home!
